Unit to which it will belong - GOAL Programme Innovation Lab

Established in 1977, GOAL is an international humanitarian agency, with a team of 2,400 people, dedicated to alleviating the needs of the most vulnerable communities. Currently registered in 14 of the world's most vulnerable countries, GOAL offers a wide range of humanitarian anddevelopment programmes, ranging from humanitarian aid in disaster situations to focusing on nutrition, food security and building greater resilience and sustainable livelihoods.

The Programme Innovation Lab is a dynamic and collaborative unit established by GOAL to foster the innovation that emerges from its programmes and promote it within the organisation and the wider humanitarian and development community. The Lab is an open space that facilitates collaboration and partnership between innovation champions within GOAL and key external strategic partners in order to support innovations that can be scaled to overcome humanitarian crises. GOAL's innovations include but are not limited to programmatic approaches, digital technologies, and various engineering solutions.

The "Programme Innovation Lab" (referred to as the Lab) is led by the Digital Technology Programmes Specialist, and is part of GOAL's Programme Technical Team (PTT) with team members based in various countries around the world. This specific role is managed through the GOAL Honduras country office alongside key Lab staff also based in Honduras.

The main objective of the Communications and Graphic Design Intern is to provide practical support to the Lab by producing and organising communication and design materials, primarily for digital channels and external engagements. The role contributes to clear and consistent communications by supporting content production, formatting and editing of materials, and maintaining well-organised communication assets under the guidance of the supervisor.

Main Responsibilities / Functions:

  • Develop a social media plan for the GOAL Humanitarian Innovation Fund-funded projects covering platforms, content pillars, posting frequency, and tone of voice
  • Design a ready-to-use template library covering: project spotlights, innovation updates, impact stat tiles, quote cards, event announcements, event recaps, carousel storytelling sets, one-pagers, and newsletter headers.
  • Produce and publish the first batch of live content (8–12 posts) introducing the Fund and its innovations to external audiences.
  • Set up a structured, labelled asset library in the Lab´s shared content folder for the team to continue using after the placement
  • Support the development of the design and production of social media and digital content for the Lab (graphics, simple layouts, short-form assets).
  • Support the preparation and formatting of presentations and communication products (PowerPoint decks, simple one-pagers, visuals).
  • Maintain an organised library of approved assets, ensuring clear file naming, version control, and storage in the correct shared folders.

Other responsibilities:

  • Be prepared to undertake a wide range of other activities related to innovation communications, as required by the Lab.

Minimum Profile Required:

Professional Studies:

  • University student completing a professional internship placement in in Communications, Graphic Design, or related studies.

Professional Experience:

  • Portfolio demonstrating design work and/or digital content production (academic projects accepted).
  • Experience using templates and producing content for digital channels is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with working in multicultural environments and with multidisciplinary teams is an advantage.

Knowledge:

  • Interest in humanitarian and development work and how communications can support social impact.
  • Familiarity with digital communication channels and content formats.
  • Ability to use office software, especially Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Basic knowledge of design tools such as Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite (or equivalent).
  • Basic video editing knowledge using accessible tools (for example CapCut, Premiere, or equivalent).

Competencies:

  • 100% professional fluency in written and spoken English (the role involves verbal and written communication entirely in English).
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to relate to people with respect, as this job involves interaction with different people and cultures.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, accountability, integrity, and self-motivation.
  • Good organisation skills (time management, attention to detail, ability to follow instructions and meet deadlines).
  • Ability to follow policies and procedures with an understanding of confidentiality and responsible handling of information.

Coordination:

The professional will report to the Graphic Designer and will collaborate with members of the Lab, and the PTT.

Resources:

For the development of the activities, the intern will use their own equipment, including a laptop/computer suitable for the role. As this is a remote position, the working tools and any access arrangements will be agreed with the supervisor.

Safeguard:

Children and adults in vulnerable situations should be protected to the greatest extent possible from deliberate or inadvertent actions and failures that put them at risk of abuse, sexual exploitation, injury and any other harm. One of the ways GOAL shows this ongoing commitment to protection is to include rigorous background checks and reference checks in the screening process for all candidates.

Accountability within GOAL:

  • Comply with GOAL's policies and procedures regarding safety, Code of Conduct, health and safety, data protection and confidentiality, do-not-harm principles, and unacceptable behavior protocols.
