A nationally recognized construction and engineering client of ours is seeking a Project Accounting Manager to support one of its largest and most complex projects in Central Ohio. This individual will lead project accounting operations, oversee financial performance reporting, and partner closely with project leadership to ensure accurate financial management throughout the lifecycle of a high-profile, multi-year construction initiative.
This role offers the opportunity to work on a large-scale project environment while managing a team and contributing to critical financial and operational decisions.
Key Responsibilities- Lead all project accounting functions for a major construction project, including job costing, billings, forecasting, and financial reporting.
- Manage and mentor project accounting staff while ensuring accuracy, consistency, and adherence to company policies.
- Partner with Project Managers and Operations Leadership to monitor project financial performance and identify risks, trends, and opportunities.
- Review and analyze project budgets, change orders, commitments, subcontract costs, and cost-to-complete forecasts.
- Oversee monthly project billings, revenue recognition, and collections activities in accordance with contract requirements.
- Ensure accurate project cost tracking and maintain the integrity of job cost reporting.
- Prepare and present financial reports, profitability analyses, and project performance metrics to leadership.
- Manage month-end and year-end closing activities related to assigned projects.
- Support audits, compliance requirements, internal controls, and financial governance initiatives.
- Evaluate accounting processes and implement improvements that enhance efficiency and reporting accuracy.
- Coordinate with procurement, operations, and project teams to resolve financial and contract-related issues.
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
- 7+ years of accounting experience, including significant project accounting experience within construction, engineering, industrial, infrastructure, or related project-based environments.
- Previous leadership experience managing or mentoring accounting professionals.
- Strong understanding of job costing, percentage-of-completion accounting, earned value concepts, forecasting, and project financial analysis.
- Experience supporting large, complex construction projects with substantial contract values.
- Knowledge of construction contracts, change orders, subcontract administration, progress billings, and retention management.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and experience working with ERP/accounting systems.
- Ability to analyze large data sets and translate financial information into actionable business insights.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across accounting, operations, project management, and executive leadership teams.
Preferred Qualifications- CPA, CMA, or equivalent professional certification preferred but not required
- Experience with construction accounting platforms such as COINS, CMiC, Viewpoint, Oracle, SAP, JDE, or similar ERP systems
- Experience supporting large-scale infrastructure, healthcare, mission-critical, airport, manufacturing, or industrial construction projects
- Proven track record of improving financial processes and reporting capabilities
Pay Details: $100,000.00 to $140,000.00 per year
