LHH Recruitment Solutions is partnering with a well-established and mission-driven nonprofit organization in Essex County that is seeking an Accounting Manager to join its growing finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys combining hands-on accounting leadership with process improvement, systems optimization, and cross-functional collaboration. Position Overview
The Accounting Manager will play a key role in overseeing daily accounting operations while ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting. This individual will manage the month-end close process, support revenue accounting activities, maintain strong internal controls, and help drive technology and process enhancements across the Finance function.
The ideal candidate will bring nonprofit accounting experience, strong knowledge of GAAP, and expertise working within ERP environments, particularly NetSuite. This role will also serve as an important liaison across multiple departments, helping to improve reporting capabilities and optimize financial processes.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead day-to-day accounting activities, including oversight of accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
  • Manage monthly and year-end close processes, ensuring timely reconciliations, journal entries, account analyses, and financial accuracy.
  • Oversee accounting for grants, donor contributions, pledges, and deferred revenue in accordance with nonprofit accounting standards and GAAP.
  • Ensure accurate tracking and reporting of restricted funds, receivables, and revenue recognition activities.
  • Support cash management, liquidity planning, and forecasting efforts.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to maintain data integrity and improve financial reporting capabilities.
  • Identify and implement process improvements, workflow efficiencies, and automation opportunities across accounting operations.
  • Serve as a key resource for ERP system administration, enhancements, user support, and training initiatives.
  • Coordinate with IT and external partners on system integrations and technology-related projects.
  • Develop and mentor accounting staff while fostering a collaborative, high-performance team environment.
  • Assist with special projects, audits, and strategic Finance Department initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including meaningful experience within a nonprofit organization.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles.
  • Hands-on experience with NetSuite; advanced ERP knowledge strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting system implementations, integrations, or automation initiatives is highly desirable.
  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience within an accounting function.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent communication skills with a demonstrated ability to build relationships across finance and non-finance teams.
