Position SummaryA growing real estate investment and property management organization is seeking a Staff Accountant to support day-to-day accounting operations and financial reporting activities. This role will be responsible for assisting with month-end close, maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reconciliations, supporting audits, and contributing to various accounting and reporting functions across a portfolio of real estate assets.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment while collaborating with internal departments and external business partners.
Essential ResponsibilitiesGeneral Accounting- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
- Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure the accuracy of financial records.
- Assist with the preparation of financial statements and management reports.
- Analyze financial data and investigate account variances.
- Track fixed assets and maintain related schedules.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and special financial analysis projects.
- Ensure compliance with company accounting policies and GAAP standards.
Real Estate Accounting- Review property-level financial activity and reporting.
- Work closely with operations and property management teams to ensure accurate recording of transactions.
- Monitor operating expenses and assist with variance analysis.
- Reconcile cash accounts, balance sheet accounts, and intercompany activity.
- Support accounting for acquisitions, dispositions, and other real estate transactions as needed.
Accounts Payable & Cash Management- Review and process invoices and payment requests.
- Prepare and record electronic payments, wires, ACH transactions, and checks.
- Process employee expense reimbursements.
- Monitor cash balances and assist with cash forecasting activities.
- Maintain banking records and assist with banking-related requests.
- Record cash receipts and ensure timely application of payments.
Audit, Tax & Compliance Support- Assist with annual audit requests and preparation of supporting documentation.
- Support tax compliance activities, including gathering information for external tax preparers.
- Assist with preparation of 1099 reporting and other regulatory filings.
- Maintain organized financial records and schedules for compliance purposes.
- Stay current on accounting standards and regulatory requirements impacting the business.
QualificationsEducation- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
Experience- 3+ years of accounting experience required.
- Experience within real estate, property management, real estate investment, construction, or related industries preferred.
- Public accounting experience is a plus.
Skills- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Experience with month-end close and account reconciliations.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables and lookup functions.
- Experience working with ERP or accounting software systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications- CPA certification or progress toward CPA licensure preferred.
- Familiarity with real estate accounting concepts and property-level reporting.
