Construction Accountant

Key Responsibilities- Research, reconcile, and resolve historical and outdated billing discrepancies.
- Manage customer invoicing, progress billings, AIA billings, and schedule of values.
- Review and clean up aged accounts receivable balances and collection issues.
- Develop and execute collection strategies to improve cash flow and reduce outstanding receivables.
- Prepare, track, and monitor preliminary notices (pre-liens), lien waivers, conditional and unconditional releases, and mechanic's liens.
- Coordinate lien release documentation with subcontractors, vendors, project managers, and customers.
- Research unpaid invoices and resolve billing disputes.
- Maintain accurate project-related accounting records and job cost information.
- Reconcile project balances and assist with project closeouts.
- Monitor subcontractor compliance documentation, insurance certificates, and payment requirements.
- Prepare AR aging reports and provide recommendations to management regarding collection efforts.
- Assist with month-end close activities, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Partner with project management and operations teams to ensure billing accuracy and timely collections.
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
- 5+ years of construction accounting experience.
- Extensive knowledge of construction billing, accounts receivable, collections, and project accounting.
- Experience handling preliminary notices, mechanic's liens, lien waivers, stop notices, and lien releases.
- Understanding of job costing, contract compliance, change orders, and project closeouts.
- Strong reconciliation and problem-solving skills with the ability to clean up legacy accounting issues.
- Proficiency with construction accounting software such as Viewpoint Vista, Sage 300/Timberline, Foundation, Procore, CMiC, or similar platforms.
- Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and data analysis.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with project managers and customers.
