Southfield, Michigan that is seeking a
Temporary Assistant Controller to join their team for an
8+ month contract assignment. This hybrid opportunity offers competitive compensation and the opportunity to play a key role in supporting the accounting and finance functions of a dynamic organization.
The ideal candidate will have strong accounting leadership experience, a thorough understanding of financial reporting, and the ability to support month-end close, financial analysis, and process improvement initiatives while partnering with key stakeholders across the business.
Responsibilities- Assist in overseeing day-to-day accounting operations and financial reporting activities
- Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
- Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger activity
- Assist with the preparation and analysis of financial statements and management reports
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis activities
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and company accounting policies
- Assist with audit preparation and coordinate requests from internal and external auditors
- Analyze financial data and provide recommendations to improve operational efficiency
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance accounting accuracy and effectiveness
- Partner with leadership and cross-functional departments to support business objectives
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Prior experience in an Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, Senior Accountant, or similar leadership role
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements
- Experience with general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, and month-end close
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Experience with ERP/accounting systems
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications- CPA designation preferred
- Experience supporting audits and financial statement preparation
- Experience managing or mentoring accounting staff
- Background in process improvement and internal controls
