Purchasing / Materials Buyer Job Summary We are seeking an experienced
Purchasing / Materials Buyer to support our manufacturing operations by managing the procurement of materials and services required to meet production schedules. This role is responsible for balancing
cost, quality, specifications, and delivery performance while maintaining strong relationships with suppliers and internal teams.
The ideal candidate is a strong communicator and negotiator who can proactively manage supplier performance, resolve procurement issues, and identify opportunities for cost reduction and process improvement.
Key Responsibilities - Negotiate pricing, quality, specifications, and delivery requirements for assigned commodities and materials.
- Evaluate supplier capabilities and performance to select the appropriate vendors based on cost, quality, delivery, and other business requirements.
- Process and manage purchase requisitions and purchase orders for materials required to support production.
- Monitor supplier delivery schedules and proactively address potential delays that could impact manufacturing requirements.
- Investigate Material Variance Reports and coordinate with suppliers, Quality, Engineering, and other departments to identify root causes and implement effective corrective actions.
- Serve as a key point of contact for supplier questions, issues, and concerns, coordinating with Engineering, Quality, Sales, Accounting, and other internal departments as needed.
- Provide guidance and support to internal departments regarding purchasing, supplier, and procurement-related issues.
- Coordinate with internal teams and suppliers on special projects, programs, and other initiatives as assigned by management.
- Prepare and maintain purchasing reports related to cost reduction, new orders, change orders, purchasing spend, project status, and supplier performance .
- Coordinate supplier visits and ensure appropriate internal departments are represented to accomplish the objectives of each visit.
- Work closely with Production Planning to review supplier delivery schedules and identify situations where scheduled deliveries do not support required dates.
- Communicate supplier delivery changes and potential production impacts to planners and other affected departments.
- Support the development of small and disadvantaged suppliers and help achieve Purchasing objectives related to Military and Government contract requirements .
- Manage component deliveries and supplier performance to drive consistent on-time delivery and quality .
- Identify and support opportunities for supplier improvement, cost reduction, and continuous improvement.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management. Responsibilities may be modified, expanded, or changed based on business needs.
Required Qualifications & Experience - 3-6 years of purchasing, procurement, or materials-buying experience , preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience working with MRP systems ; CPAM experience is a plus.
- Working knowledge of standard purchasing practices, systems, and procedures.
- Experience with supplier evaluation, negotiations, cost reduction, and supplier performance management .
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings/blueprints .
- Strong communication, negotiation, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively with suppliers and cross-functional internal teams.
- Assertive, proactive approach to resolving supplier and procurement issues.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting production and purchasing deadlines.
Education - College degree preferred, ideally in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Business, or a related field .
- Equivalent relevant purchasing, procurement, or manufacturing experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

The successful candidate will build productive supplier relationships, proactively resolve issues, improve supplier performance, and identify opportunities to reduce costs and strengthen the overall supply chain.
Pay Details: $32.00 to $35.00 per hour
