About the Role

Nuclear Engineer For Reactor Modeling Project

Our team is in search of a Nuclear Engineer with specialized knowledge in early-generation CANDU reactor design to play a pivotal role in a reactor modeling project. The ideal candidate will guide our modeling team, leveraging historical knowledge to accurately represent the interior of the reactor, especially in instances where detailed legacy drawings are insufficient.

Contract length: 6 months

Location: mainly remote but would need to visit the Chalk River Laboratories, Chalk River, Ontario once to meet with the team they would be working with.

Hours: 8-10 hours per week for the term. As the engineer needs to validate the designer's work and contribute to some of the difficult Revit modeling work, this work day is more flexible. Based on the need the engineer can work for 10 hours per day (7am to 5pm EDT) or divide the work over a few days between Mondays to Thursday.

Key Activities Include:
  • Provide expert knowledge on early-generation CANDU reactor design to guide the accurate modeling of the reactor's interior.
  • Collaborate with CAD technologist to ensure the model accurately reflects historical design specifications, with a focus on components where legacy drawings may lack detail.
  • Assist in identifying and overcoming challenges related to the absence of detailed drawings, ensuring the model remains a reliable representation of the reactor's interior.
  • Contribute to the development of reference components within the model, using labels, colors, or other means to distinguish them from high-accuracy models.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nuclear Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Deep knowledge of CANDU reactor design and operational principles, especially of early-generation reactors.
  • Experience with CAD modeling and familiarity with Revit or Autodesk Inventor is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and communicate complex ideas clearly.
  • Sound knowledge of reactor design engineering and more than ten (10) years of significant related experience in the areas of:
    • CNSC REGDOC's, i.e. RGDOC-2.5.2, Design of Reactor Facilities
    • CSA N286 series
    • CSA N285 series
    • CSA N287 series
    • CSA N287 series
    • CSA N292.0 and N292.2
    • ASME BPVC
    • CNSC Regulatory Guides, i.e. Regulatory Guide G-210 – Seismic Design for Nuclear Power Plants
    • IAEA Safety Standards/Codes of Practice
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in technical matters, to routinely solve technical problems and to make independent decisions.
  • Able to interpret design drawings, documents, data collected from field visits.
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills; previous experience making or preparing technical presentations targeted to small and large audiences
