This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Substation Engineer based in the United States. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the design and delivery of critical substationinfrastructure supporting utility, renewable energy, telecommunications, and industrial power systems. You will work within multidisciplinary engineering teams to develop high-quality physical and protection & control designs for medium- and high-voltage substations. The position involves hands-on technical execution, from conceptual design through construction documentation, while ensuring compliance with industry standards and client requirements. You will collaborate closely with senior engineers and project stakeholders to support project delivery, cost estimation, and technical problem-solving. The environment is fast-paced and technically engaging, with exposure to complex power delivery projects and evolving energy systems. This is a remote role within the United States, offering flexibility while remaining deeply connected to impactful engineering work.
Accountabilities In this role, you will be responsible for supporting the design, analysis, and delivery of substation engineering projects, ensuring technical accuracy, quality, and alignment with project objectives.
- Develop conceptual designs, execution plans, and engineering cost estimates for substation projects.
- Produce construction-ready documentation including drawings, calculations, studies, and technical reports for medium- and high-voltage substations.
- Design key substation components such as one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, layouts, grounding plans, and equipment arrangements.
- Perform engineering calculations and studies, including station service, voltage drop, cable sizing, and DC battery sizing as applicable.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including civil, structural, transmission line, and protection & control engineers to deliver integrated solutions.
- Conduct quality reviews of engineering deliverables and ensure compliance with IEEE, IEC, NESC, and client standards.
- Provide regular project status updates, including progress tracking, milestone reporting, and completion forecasts.
Requirements This position requires a strong foundation in electrical engineering and substation design, with hands-on experience in power delivery systems and familiarity with industry standards.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- 2+ years of experience in substation or power delivery engineering.
- Experience with high-voltage substation design (12kV-500kV), including physical and electrical design deliverables.
- Strong understanding of protection and controls design principles.
- Ability to interpret and apply IEEE, IEC, NESC, and utility/client standards.
- Experience with engineering deliverables such as grounding plans, raceway design, equipment layouts, and P&C schematics.
- Knowledge of power system studies (station service, cable selection, voltage drop) is a plus.
- Familiarity with relay settings and substation equipment is a plus.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to work effectively in team environments.
Benefits - Competitive compensation package
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage
- Life insurance and disability coverage
- 401(k) retirement plan
- Paid time off (PTO) and holidays
- Professional development and career advancement opportunities
- Remote work flexibility within the United States
