About the Role

Overview

Our client, a globally recognized contemporary women's designer house, is seeking a Vice President of Merchandising to lead collection strategy during a period of growth. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, this New York-based leader will connect the creative vision with commercial performance across wholesale, direct-to-consumer, and international markets. The role is full time and based at headquarters, with periodic domestic and international travel.

Responsibilities

  • Own seasonal line plans across categories, price points, deliveries, and channels, balancing signature styles, newness, and continuity programs.

  • Partner with design leadership from concept through final line, providing specific direction on silhouette, fit, proportion, fabrication, color, and outfitting.

  • Establish price architecture and work with production and sourcing to meet margin targets and manage the product development calendar.

  • Own merchandise financial plans with finance, including sales, margin, sell-through, inventory, and open-to-buy. Use performance data to guide assortments, reorders, carryover, and markdowns.

  • Conduct competitive research and present seasonal results and recommendations to executive leadership.

  • Partner with wholesale, e-commerce, marketing, and retail teams on channel assortments, market preparation, product launches, and key partner presentations.

  • Lead and develop the merchandising team, establishing clear processes, tools, and accountability.

Requirements

  • 10 or more years of merchandising, buying, or fashion direction experience in luxury or designer women's ready-to-wear, including 3 to 5 years in senior leadership.

  • Experience partnering with senior design talent in a designer-led environment, with strong judgment in fittings, line reviews, and collection editing.

  • Proven ability to build assortments that improve sales, sell-through, and margin across multiple channels; international market experience preferred.

  • Strong product instinct, knowledge of the luxury women's customer, and the ability to turn a collection into compelling looks.

  • Financial and analytical fluency, advanced Excel skills, and experience with merchandise planning and PLM systems.

  • Clear, diplomatic communication and a hands-on, self-directed approach to leadership.

  • Bachelor's degree in fashion merchandising, business, or a related field preferred.
