LHH is seeking an IS Business Analyst I for a contract-to-hire opportunity in San Diego. This is a great fit for an early-career technical professional who enjoys both understanding business problems and helping build the solutions.
This role sits within an Automation team and combines business analysis, process improvement, Python/SQL scripting, testing, and automation support. You'll work directly with business stakeholders to understand how processes work today, identify opportunities for improvement, document requirements, and help translate those needs into technical solutions.
The initial contract is expected to be approximately three months, with potential conversion to a permanent position.
Responsibilities

• Meet with business stakeholders to understand processes, pain points, manual tasks, business rules, data requirements, and desired outcomes
• Gather, clarify, and document business and technical requirements
• Break complex or unclear business processes into logical components
• Identify inefficiencies, repetitive tasks, bottlenecks, and opportunities for automation or process improvement
• Translate business needs into clear technical requirements for automation development and testing
• Write, understand, modify, and troubleshoot Python scripts
• Write and troubleshoot SQL queries for data processing, validation, and analysis
• Assist with automation development, testing, validation, troubleshooting, and ongoing support
• Create and maintain process flows, user stories, acceptance criteria, requirements documentation, and solution documentation
• Partner with technical and nontechnical stakeholders throughout the solution lifecycle
• Participate in Agile activities including stand-ups, sprint planning, backlog refinement, and work reviews
• Gain exposure to additional automation and data technologies including Power Automate, Power BI, Alteryx, Microsoft Fabric, APIs, and source control tools

Qualifications

• Approximately 2 years minimum of relevant professional experience preferred
• Professional experience using Python is required
• Professional experience using SQL is required
• Ability to write, understand, modify, and troubleshoot Python scripts and SQL queries
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Experience gathering and documenting business requirements
• Ability to ask effective follow-up questions and identify business rules, exceptions, dependencies, and expected outcomes
• Ability to translate business requirements into logical technical deliverables
• Strong written documentation skills and attention to detail
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Comfortable working with both technical and nontechnical stakeholders
• Ability to work independently while collaborating within a team
• Comfortable working in an environment where priorities and processes may evolve

Preferred Experience
Experience with any of the following is helpful but not required:

• Power Automate
• Power BI
• Alteryx
• Microsoft Fabric
• APIs
• Git or other source control tools
• Jira
• Agile/Scrum
• Microsoft SQL Server / SSMS
• Audited or regulated environments

Interview Process
The interview process is expected to include an initial Teams interview followed by an onsite interview in downtown San Diego. The onsite process will include meetings with several team members as well as an SQL assessment.
Candidates must be able to work onsite in downtown San Diego three days per week.
Pay Details: $34.00 to $36.00 per hour
