Commercial Construction Superintendent – Lead Travel Projects for JJO Construction!
Job Overview
- Company: JJO Construction
- Salary: $90,000–$105,000+ per year, depending on experience, plus bonus opportunities
- Location: Central / Eastern United States — Extensive Travel Required
- Employment Type: Full-Time
- Project Scope: Commercial General Construction — Restaurant, Retail, Ground-Up, Renovation & Remodel
- Required Licenses / Certifications: Driver's License
The Opportunity
JJO Construction is seeking an experienced Traveling Commercial Construction Superintendent to take full ownership of commercial projects from mobilization through completion.
This is a field leadership role for someone who takes pride in their work, holds subcontractors accountable, solves problems without constant oversight, and wants to look back at a completed project knowing it was built the right way.
You will typically manage one project at a time, coordinating local subcontractors and driving the schedule, quality, safety, and daily execution of fast-moving restaurant and retail construction projects throughout the central and eastern United States.
This is not an Austin-based position. Candidates may live throughout JJO's primary operating territory, ideally with reasonable access to a commercial airport.
How You Will Make an Impact
- Take ownership of assigned commercial projects from start through turnover.
- Manage daily field operations, schedules, subcontractors, deliveries, inspections, and jobsite activity.
- Coordinate and supervise local subcontractors across multiple trades.
- Maintain project quality while keeping work moving safely and on schedule.
- Read and interpret architectural plans, drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
- Identify field conflicts early and work with Project Management to resolve issues quickly.
- Hold subcontractors accountable for workmanship, schedule, cleanliness, and contract requirements.
- Maintain accurate daily field reports, project photos, manpower counts, deliveries, and jobsite documentation using JobPlanner or similar mobile technology.
- Communicate clearly with Project Managers, subcontractors, ownership, inspectors, and other stakeholders.
- Complete limited minor punch-list or closeout work when needed, while keeping the primary focus on project supervision and subcontractor management.
- Represent JJO Construction professionally with clients, trade partners, and project stakeholders.
Travel Expectations
This is a true traveling superintendent position.
- Projects may be located throughout Texas, the Midwest, Southeast, Mid-Atlantic, and other central/eastern U.S. markets.
- Superintendents generally travel directly from home to their assigned project rather than reporting regularly to an Austin office.
- Drivable assignments may allow the Superintendent to return home on weekends.
- For fly-away projects, company-supported trips home are generally planned in advance and occur depending on project location, schedule, and airfare.
- Some assignments may require remaining near the project for multiple consecutive weeks.
- Candidates must be comfortable with extended travel and understand that project needs drive the schedule.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- 5+ years of commercial construction experience, preferably in a Superintendent or comparable field-leadership role.
- Proven ability to independently manage commercial construction projects and subcontractors.
- Strong knowledge of commercial construction sequencing and field operations.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and drawings.
- Strong problem-solving ability and willingness to make timely field decisions.
- High level of accountability, ownership, integrity, and pride in workmanship.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfortable using smartphones, tablets, and digital field-reporting tools.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel extensively throughout JJO's operating territory.
Preferred Qualifications
- Restaurant or retail construction experience.
- Ground-up commercial construction experience.
- Experience completing fast-turn commercial projects.
- Experience managing local subcontractors in multiple geographic markets.
- OSHA or other applicable construction safety certifications.
- High School Diploma or GED.
Compensation & Benefits
JJO offers a strong total compensation package designed to support long-term employees and traveling field leaders.
- $90,000–$105,000+ annual base salary, depending on experience.
- Annual bonus opportunities.
- Weekly pay.
- 100% employee health insurance coverage paid by the company.
- 401(k) retirement program.
- Profit-sharing program.
- Paid vacation, holidays, and sick leave.
- Vehicle / truck allowance.
- Travel per diem and reimbursement of approved project-related expenses.
- Company-supported travel home on qualifying assignments.
- Smartphone / tablet and necessary field technology.
- Ongoing safety and technical training.
- Career-development opportunities within an established commercial contractor.
