SLR Consulting (Canada), an 800+ team of advisory, environmental, engineering, and regulatory professionals across Canada, is seeking a Senior Power Engineer to lead engineering activities including design, analysis, simulation, commissioning, and technical advisoryfor utility-scale solar, and energy storage projects throughout North America and the Caribbean. The primary focus for this role will be on projects in Alberta, Ontario, New York, PJM and MISO regions. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, enjoys technical challenges, leads client engagement, and thrives in a highly collaborative and dynamic environment.
Responsibilities include overseeing and reviewing all aspects of solar PV and battery energy storage system design for utility-scale projects, ensuring technical accuracy, regulatory compliance, and adherence to SLR and industry standards.Preparing scopes of work, comprehensive proposals and costing engineering engagements.Mentoring team members, reviewing team deliverables for technical quality and consistency; setting and upholding drawing standards and best practices across the practice.Providing technical support to internal and external stakeholders across all phases of design, interconnection, and construction.
Overseeing project execution; assigning tasks, managing workflows, tracking milestones, and preparing status reports for senior management.Interfacing with clients, vendors, utilities, and local authorities to align project requirements and ensure deliverables are met on time and within budget.Conducting detailed energy production simulations and modeling for solar PV and storage systems using Excel and PVSyst.Performing and reviewing power system studies including underground ampacity, load flow, protective coordination, short-circuit, grounding, and arc flash analysis using ETAP.
Preparing and maintaining comprehensive project documentation, including feasibility studies, scopes of work, commissioning reports, technical specifications, and RFP responses.Assisting Project Leads in prioritizing engineering tasks, managing team resources, and fulfilling administrative duties as needed.Ensuring project designs comply with relevant codes and standards (e.g., NEC, CEC, IEEE, and building codes).Conducting on-site field visits to support design verification, construction, and commissioning activities as required.Recommending and implementing continuous improvements in design practices, project execution processes, and product performance.
Supporting business development efforts by providing technical input on proposals, estimating engineering scope, and advising on system configuration.Collaborating with external engineering consultants and partners to ensure quality assurance and jurisdictional compliance.

Qualifications include minimum 8 years of experience in power systems engineering; solar and battery storage experience preferred.Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Systems Engineering.Proficient with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and power system analysis tools (e.g., ETAP, SKM, PSCAD).Strong knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and/or National Electrical Code (NEC).Familiarity with relevant standards such as IEEE 80, IEEE 1547, CSA 22.2 No. 107.1, UL 1741, and NFPA 855 is an asset.Licensed Canadian P.Eng. or US PE.Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
Legally authorized to work in Canada or U.S.Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites.
