About the OpportunityOur client is a well-established and growing organization seeking a Payroll Specialist to join their collaborative payroll team. Position OverviewThe Payroll Specialist will play a key role in processing complex, multi-state payroll while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and exceptional internal customer service. This individual will support payroll operations for a large employee population across multiple states and union environments, while partnering closely with the Payroll Manager and payroll team.
Key Responsibilities- Process high-volume payroll for approximately 1,300 employees across multiple states on a weekly basis.
- Audit timekeeping and payroll data to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Review payroll records and identify discrepancies, making corrections as needed.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
- Assist with payroll tax reporting and related compliance requirements.
- Prepare payroll reports and provide analysis for management review.
- Reconcile payroll-related accounts and assist with month-end and year-end processes.
- Respond to employee payroll inquiries and resolve issues in a timely, professional manner.
- Maintain the confidentiality of sensitive employee and payroll information.
- Collaborate with internal teams to support payroll operations and process improvements.
- Communicate payroll concerns and escalate issues when appropriate.
QualificationsRequired- 2+ years of payroll experience.
- Experience processing high-volume, multi-state payroll.
- Strong understanding of payroll compliance and payroll best practices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other payroll-related software.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
- Team-oriented mindset with a strong work ethic.
Preferred- Experience processing union payroll.
- Experience working in complex payroll environments with multiple jurisdictions.
- 5+ years of payroll, accounting, or related experience.
