HR & Payroll Assistant LHH is partnering with a mission-driven nonprofit organization in El Cajon to hire an HR & Payroll Assistant for a contract-to-hire opportunity. This role is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, hands-on, and comfortable managing payroll while supporting day-to-day HR operations. You'll play a key role in ensuring accurate payroll processing, maintaining compliant HR records, and supporting a wide range of employee-related functions in a collaborative and purpose-driven environment.
Responsibilities: - Provide day-to-day support across HR and payroll functions
- Assist with payroll processing in Paylocity and backup processing as needed
- Partner with the payroll to ensure accuracy and perform secondary audits
- Respond to employee inquiries related to payroll, benefits, policies, and leave programs
- Support recruiting by coordinating candidate outreach, scheduling interviews, and assisting with hiring logistics
- Facilitate onboarding, including new hire paperwork, pre-employment requirements, and orientation coordination
- Collaborate with HR, IT, and security to ensure a smooth onboarding and offboarding experience
- Track HR compliance requirements and assist with administrative processes and reporting
- Handle sensitive employee and payroll information with a high level of confidentiality and professionalism
Qualifications: - 1+ years of experience in payroll and HR support or a blended HR/payroll role
- Knowledge of California wage and payroll compliance
- Experience processing payroll
- Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
- Comfortable handling administrative and clerical HR tasks in a manual or semi-manual environment
- Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with discretion
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
Compensation & Schedule: - $23-$26/hour
- Contract-To-Hire opportunity
- Full-time, Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:00pm
- Fully onsite in El Cajon
